thanks Ian that is very useful to know – I hadn’t realised that some credit card companies would consider a change of resort as being sufficient to warrant a refund.   Good to know your travel insurance refunded the “rental” week you had too.

My follow on question is if Santander then recover the money from Anfi, will Anfi consider that as non-payment of the 2020 maintenance fees?

A clarification on the driving licence reported on the Radio 4 Today programme this morning – if you have an old paper licence you do need an International drivers licence, whereas the photocard type does not.

The BBC are still reporting the EHIC as being valid – yet on Michael Gove interview 2 days ago he recommended people get travel heath insurance.

Following the Brexit deal the BBC is reporting that an agreement has or is being reached for driving licences and EHIC cards – good news if correct – keep an eye on the government website before you travel to check for latest information.
As the EHIC covers pre-existing conditions this is really good news.

    ————————————–

    BBC 25th December 2020:-
“In another development following the deal announcement, the UK Mission to the EU said that people with a driving licence issued in the UK will not need to use an International Drivers Licence in the EU, and that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is to be replaced by a similar scheme. Current EHIC cards will remain valid until their expiry date.”

Spain suspending flights from UK into all Spanish territory, including the Canary and Balearic Islands, from tomorrow for non essential travel, except for Spanish citizens and residents.   Now 40 countries restricting flight from UK

    Hi Lawrence

Just to add to Roger’s reply, if you have asked for a voucher already but haven’t had one, or even if you didn’t ask, please do contact Anfi now about the voucher.

And just for clarity the Anfi UK Club is independent of Anfi and is a club for members to provide a “voice” and a forum for sharing information and advice –  we have no role in managing the issue of refunds, vouchers, or bookings.

If Anfi do not have the maintenance fee for 2021 paid, then they are unlikely to allow you to use your week at Anfi – though they seem to accept reservations, as for example in previous years I’ve paid later in January after making bookings earlier in the month.

    Regards, Brian

right!!  –  after a few days of confusion Spain have said no to antigen tests

    https://www.canarianweekly.com/posts/Antigen-tests-not-allowed-tourists-enter-canaries

also keep an eye on the tourist authority website https://www.hellocanaryislands.com/coronavirus/

For those in UK may make little difference as the price of PCR and antigen is not that great – whereas elsewhere antigen can be had for €30

    Hi Bob

I’ve moved your post to line up with the previous posts on the topic of migrants.     Where did you hear about Anfi being “occupied”?

There have been migrants held at the Arguineguin docs, though most or all of that is cleared now.  Some are accommodated in apartments in Puerto Rico and neighbouring areas.  New accommodation is being set up in ex-military camps.
And many have been moved off Gran Canaria to other locations including the mainland.

There have been reports on the Canary News and Canarian Weekly   as there have been protests from some local people.

    Regards, Brian

easyJet have just released the flights from October 2021 to 26th March 2022

    Notable that:-

    • The luggage prices have gone up
    • and you only get cabin case if upfront, otherwise only a small underseat bag is allowed (this change comes in for all travel from 10th February 2021 – more detail from Easyjet on this link

Important info as I can see in social media some people have been confused by the governments wording  –  if you are travelling to Anfi and looking to have a test when you return to reduce the quarantine period – the government guidance is on this link – https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-test-to-release-for-international-travel

Worth reading carefully as you can put your test details in before you return on the passenger locator form but, importantly you can also do this AFTER you return with a new form. Perhaps not written as clearly as it might be. It says –
“You will be asked to enter details of your test in the passenger locator form. You must do this to take part in the scheme.
You should book your test before you travel to England. This is so you can enter details of the test when you opt into the scheme on the passenger locator form.

If you decide to take part in the scheme after you have arrived in England, you will need to complete another passenger locator form.”

    – although you can fill in the test info on the form before you travel back, and at first reading it read to me as if you have to, the later sentence makes it clear you can do another form after you are back

Do keep looking at the government site as these things have a habit of being updated.

Bearing in mind the quarantine period in England is being reduced from 14 days to 10,  from 00:01 Monday 14 December,  the benefit of having the test will be reduced as on top of the 5 days isolation you’ll need a day or two to get the result.

a further article in the Independent by Simon Calder:-

In case you missed the news the UK government has removed the Canary Islands from the countries exempted from quarantine – anyone returning after 04.00 on Saturday 12th November will need to quarantine – however after 5 days there is option to pay for a test and if negative no more quarantine.

The overall incidence for Canary Islands is now 52 – this is solely due to Tenerife which has a rate of 98

Feel so sorry for Gran Canaria as its incidence is 17.5 and the other islands are quite low as well

You can see the figures on https://cvcanarias.com/  – just scroll down a little to see the tables for each island

The BBC has just published a guide to travel after Brexit which confirms much of the info above and gives more detail – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46627083

If you are applying for a passport renewal, the Passport Office is currently turning these round very quickly – within about a week.  I applied on the 3rd and had my application approved today.
Great service from the passport office!!   Two other people I know who applied recently had similar experience.

Another restaurant that was closed in October and November – we had hoped to go. The whole of the centre around it seemed closed during the day but in evening we saw a few of the larger restaurants open.

    #61032

Sagitario is open a few days a week at present – we walked past it on the way to Valentinos and Montsemar

They still have live music shown for Sunday evenings

They seem to close up and pack away by 10, so don’t go too late

    #61031

We did hope to go, but sadly the restaurant is all closed up at present – hopefully will reopen when numbers pick up.

    #61030

Pam & I went twice during our last visit to Anfi – Palm Garden is open most days & quite a lot of the tables were booked

Excellent food and  service, and ate far too much!!!

Like all the restaurants they have reduced table numbers and spaced them out – there are tables on the outside balcony though at this time of year it can be a bit chilly.  Check the weather forecast of thinking of booking outside!

    #61029

We went back to Montsemar twice during our last visit at Anfi – excellent food

    #61028

We went 3 times during our last visit – food excellent as always. Rather sad that only 3 of the 11 staff are working due to low customer numbers.   Well worth the walk round from Anfi.

They were doing small free Irish coffee at the end of the meal in November.

Look out for the daily specials – the fish and steak dishes were very good

    #61027

This has suffered with the very ow numbers at Anfi – it was only open a few times whilst we were there – so look out for the opening times – they had live music

There were about 10 or so customers in at the peak and it was very quiet by 10.00

    #61025

Chapter One is still open though mainly day time hours in November –  we only had coffee and cake there so can’t comment on the food

    #61024

Maroa had only been open at weekends until recently, then it opened Friday as well and from this week is open 7 days a week – hopefully a sign that numbers are increasing.

Pam & went there a few weeks ago for coffee a few times, and had breakfast one day – they have service from the counter now and no self service to meet the covid requirements.  Breakfast was good – you could also try the Chapter One, or the new Maroa cafe that is near Chapter One

Latest date for Beach opening is the 12th December  – please do remember to let Anfi know whether you are travelling as it help them plan capacity.
