I drove along the road by the walkway a few times when at Anfi over last few weeks – the new walkway is in use and there are activity points along the route with various exercise equipment.  Looks very good.

I was just out from 15th October to 5th November and hadn’t seen that, our apartment overlooks the beach and I paddled across a couple of mornings when going to Spar

Pam & I were out from 15th October to 5th November, the park is open though closed until late afternoon.   They take off the covers before about 5 p.m., then close up mid to late evening.

Our granddaughters (2 and a half years and 5 years)  were out for a week with us. Loved the FunPark.   The trampolining is best though maybe for 4 or 5 years plus.  Other rides are good too.

Suggest you look over the rides available before committing.   Though definitely worth a visit. There is a long slide like the one that was near the plaza, very good.

My granddaughters were worn out after, so result!!

We went about 2 weeks ago.   They still do the Sunday thing with a “live” jazz player and all went well for us.

Saw same jazz last Sunday as we walked past to go to Montsemar.   And most tables taken.

We booked my son and his wife into Palm Garden 2 weeks ago and they loved it, excellent food and service.  It was just before the rainy evening a week or so back but they had first course on terrace and then moved inside for for mains and dessert.

Last week Pam & I and 2 friends staying with us went there and was best meal of Pam & I’s 3 weeks, and of our friends week.   I had the pork wrapped in bacon and really good meal, pork was really good.  Pam had steak. Our friends had Chateaubriand – all really good.
I had, again, the raspberry dessert (called “Hot Love”  and waiter said would work within 45 minutes!!)  The other desserts were also great.

    Hi Diane

Belated reply, though sorry to hear of the delays you had, though good that your flight was not affected.

Anfi reception definitely knew about delays from 15th October.  You were unlucky as 22nd was bad with traffic back to Puerto Rico,  and oddly the days after had little delays – couldn’t really make out why.

All finished after the 26th.    They have replaced one of the lanes each way with new tarmac surface.

There does seem to be more traffic through Arguineguin every day, though no obvious cause.

I gave up on this so useful to know if anyone has same or different experience.

I went with Roger and also had the meatballs, and whilst nice I would, if going back, try one of other menu options. There are some nice looking Asian fusion dishes.  I agree with Roger about starters and dessert.

I didn’t get back to Khun before coming home yesterday, but definitely on my list for when Pam & I are back at Anfi in January.

Be interested to know if any members do change name details and how it goes.

I think Pam and I will do so for some weeks we’ve got in our own (separate) names.  Not so sure about adding children at this stage.

I checked when I was in Arguineguin a few days ago and the car park development is underway – most of the car park behind Spar is closed with only a few spaces on the road beside Spar and the parking in front of Spar.  The picture below shows the road leading to car park.

You can park where the market is held other than Tuesdays, and walk or try to park on road nearer the Spar.  The HiperDino underground parking near the roundabout is open as normal, though you have to spend at least 12 euros now to get a free exit code.
Or I’ve used Mercadonas at top of Puerto Rico which is under 10 minutes by car, and has ample free parking.

Just a brief update on the motorway work. Last week the closure from Pasito Blanco to Arguineguin caused some delays – but seemed to vary through the day – the motorway was closed from the morning to early evening and opened the rest of the time. One of the Anfi reception staff told me that a 1/2 hour journey had taken him and some of his colleagues 1 and a 1/2 hours.

The motorway was open over the weekend and today the works started from Arguineguin to Pasito Blanco  – this looked to cause some delay this morning but much worse delay now – I can see stationary traffic on the road from Patalavaca and over last hour this has built back further towards Puerto Rico – currently Google maps showing traffic back to Balito.  Also whilst the motorway traffic coming off at Arguineguin to go on the GC500 coast road was not bad earlier today, it has priority as it joins the GC500 over traffic from Arguineguin,  it now look like some miles of slow moving traffic to exit the motorway.

So be careful if you are planning to use the GC-1 to go north and allow extra time, especially if you are going to anything time critical.  If you are travelling late afternoon the motorway should be open, just check traffic on Google maps.
Also watch out if you are taking taxi to Arguineguin as journey and fare will be affected – for example Google map shows right now a journey from Anfi to Arguineguin of 25 minutes, and only by going via back roads behind Patalavaca, nearer 35 minutes if on main coast road.  I suspect looking at traffic it might be longer than this as hardly moving.

The work should be complete on Thursday.

Flower box geraniums - Anfi Beach Club

    #30863

Having got out to Anfi Beach Club on Monday we found the geraniums there are the normal type, not the “ivyleaf” trailing type.  They do liven up the window boxes though will sadly not give the big trailing splash of colour we originally had.

The ones at Gran appear to be the same type.

Anfi have announced, albeit back in August, that the chef at Khun has won a national competition for best tuna dish.  Anfi are running the same dish at restaurant for 3 months so maybe up to end of October – I’m at Anfi tomorrow so tempted to try it – have any other members?

    ———————-

During the II Mogán Tuna Fair, held in the Port of Arguineguín earlier this month, a culinary competition to produce ‘The Best Tuna Dish of Gran Canaria’ was held. Six of the best chefs from different restaurants on the island participated and we are very pleased to inform that the winner of the competition was our very own Francisco Medina, the chef from the KHUN Gran Bahía restaurant in Club Gran Anfi. Francisco prepared his secret recipe of delicious tuna meatballs with ginger barbecue sauce and it was voted by the panel of local judges to be the best of the six! This dish will be available as an extra dish to the normal KHUN menu during the next 3 months for any of our members who would like to try it. Congratulations to Francisco and the KHUN Gran Bahia restaurant and Bon Apetit to our members who wish to try the dish!

Is anyone out at Anfi in next 3 weeks?   I know Roger and Richard are there next week, but would anyone else be at Anfi and want to meet up

    Brian

    #30657

    The intended plan is:

    – GC-1 closed Pasito Blanco to Arguineguin 15th – 19th October

    – closed reverse direction 22nd – 26th October

Please refer to Anfi’s site or Facebook for latest details if this affects you

Just to confirm the committee did agree the 9th March as the firm date for the 2019 AGM.

I’ve just published a news item so everyone knows –  https://anfiukmembers.co.uk/2019-agm-9th-march-confirmed/

We are still looking at couple of hotel options so will send out more info as soon as we finalise.

If anyone has any ideas for events at AGM please do let us know. At last AGM Richard did a “life of a vet” session, so if anyone else has any topics they think might be of interest do let me know.

We haven’t been inundated with offers of help for secretary or other roles, so anyone interested in helping a bit is most welcome.
We do need to work through and refresh some of the website pages, so anyone who can just help with bits of this please let me know.  Just an hour or two a week would make a big difference.

    Regards, Brian

    Hi Terry
    Thanks for letting us know.
Perhaps Anfi could put some warning about this in reception and/or the welcome packs.  I’ll ask Roger and Richard as there are Beach and Gran Anfi liaison meetings next week.

Anfi don’t manage the beach area, though could perhaps ask for signage.

    Regards, Brian

Roger is also at Anfi from 14th – 19th October   – contact details as above

    NB
Richard is at Anfi from 15th to 20th for a Beach Club liaison meeting – contact via Beach Club reception

And I’m at Anfi from  15th October to 4th November

    Hi Ian

Thanks for letting me know that your week via the Club’s rentals adverts did rent out, and within a week!  A great result.
Most adverts seem to rent within a month to 6 weeks, depending on season and type of apartment, but under a week is definitely one of the quickest.
Pam and I had a surplus week from our floating Monte contract (for September) and it did rent in 10 days.

Next year we are hoping to go to Australia late October, so I may well have 3 weeks from mid-October to put onto rentals.

    Many thanks, Brian
