    Hi Kerry

Your private (resale) fixed week is yours each year, provided maintenance paid.

You haven’t got a right to “exchange” with Anfi – although sales may offer you a deal to change it to points or floating (I’ve got resale Beach club fixed week, which Anfi generously asked for around £8k to convert into a points value!)

You could of course rent out your week if you can’t use it, and then keep money or use it to rent a different week, which is a good way to handle any time you can’t go out yourself.   Anfi charge 50 euros for guest certificate.
I think you can also bank with RCI and then book an RCI week elsewhere, though not something I’ve done.

    Thanks Roger, and Robert

Just thinking if Anfi have to allocate an underlying fixed week to a floating or points owner, should the person selling points be able to state a fixed week?  Worth much more than a floating week!

    Hi Harry
As you only used the password with Anfi that is indeed something that they ought to be looking into!   Do let us know if you hear back

    Hi Kerry

Interesting query – as far as I know, and be good if other members could comment:-

    – Anfi do not allow people who buy resale to be in Vacation Club so I don’t think you could use the “points” bought resale in VC,  even though you are VC member for direct weeks

    – I believe Anfi will change the points into the underlying floating week – say a 1 bed Gran Anfi floating

    – and that is what you will have for booking via Customer Services, not VC.

    – also you’ll only be able to book the floating at the resort which it relates to (Pam & I have floating at Monte and can’t use that floating week at Beach, or Puerto etc). And has to be same type of apartment, so you can’t change from 1 bed to 2 bed.

So the value you pay for “points” ought to equate to a floating week, and that isn’t much if anything.
Also consider how easy or not, it is to get availability of the week you will want. Peak times are difficult with floating, at least at Monte.

Best to check out with Customer Services

As the “old” Gran Bahia is closed and has opened as the Khun Asian restaurant I’m closing this topic to further posts, and Mark Sedgwick has opened a new topic for the Khun Asian restaurant  on this link with a review from his recent visit – sounds good!

Roger Byatt found the information, copied below, about an article in the Independent yesterday, which confirms that this email scam is based on stolen passwords – and therefore is nothing to do with Anfi,  but may seem so if you use the same password with Anfi that you’ve used on one of the sites with stolen passwords e.g. LinkedIn.
Nevertheless, Richard has asked Anfi management if they are aware of any possible breach of Anfi passwords.

I wholly agree with Robert, do look up what the weeks on resale look like for the weeks you are interested in, then think about options.

In the short/medium term I’d suggest looking at getting best for your floating weeks and renting out, if you can get a profit you’ve covered your maintenance costs.  Or even if slight loss or profit, then wait to see what new owners might offer

    Hi Harry

Just thinking through – can you check on passwords you use, as the email you received didn’t specifically mention Anfi did it?

Looking at the website I mentioned above there are 4 data breaches involving your email including LinkedIn which affected many of us!      So potentially anyone who got the LinkedIn data breach or any of the other 3, could just email you with the password.
If your password is different to any other the 4 data breaches this could be an issue for Anfi – please let us know!

Thanks for reporting this Harry, and hopefully other members will add to your post if they have received similar emails, and our liaison committee members may be able to find out more from Anfi

And good advice about not using same password across different services – part of reason for this is that software is available that lets hackers input your email address and a possible password – the software can then bulk check this against hundreds of website very quickly – so someone with a list of emails and passwords will be able to upload that list and then have each email checked against hundreds of websites.

There is a site that lets you put in your email(s) and then lists which data breaches they have been involved in and what data was stolen
    https://haveibeenpwned.com/

There is a wikipedia article that tells you a bit more about the above website
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_I_Been_Pwned%3F

And to add to your advice please use passwords that are strong as the weaker ones can easily be cracked in under a minute and sometimes seconds. Strong passwords are either 10 to 12 characters or more and a mix of lower & upper case, numbers and one or two special characters or a string of four a more words – we published guidance on this when the new website launched plus gave a number of links to password generators, and the option to use a password manager

    Thanks for the update John.

I’d hope Anfi might refine the lifeguard checks so that anyone on their own with say 4 or more empty beds, is asked about where the others are, and given 15 minutes for them to be there, or towels taken  –  I’ll ask my committee colleagues if this can be taken up at the liaison meetings!

Maybe it would sharpen peoples focus if everyone have a £50 deposit when they sign in, and this is taken if anyone is found with multiple towels on sunbeds

    Hi Michael

Unless any other members have a better experience I’d say you’ll have little luck with Anfi – though keep a look out if the new owners take a different view!

Suggest you consider renting out the 1 beds, know you have done rentals before so not a new idea as such, and use money to rent 2 bed – in my view that is your best option & preserves your ownership for the future in case things improve.

Pam & I have resale 2 bed floating at Monte, the problem being getting the weeks we want, so tend to get a week, rent it, then pay to rent the week we want.   If your renting at about £550 a week for 1 bed, and paying £750 – 800 for 2 bed, that seems a reasonable deal.
A year or so back Anfi did offer to convert my floating week into points, for about £8000 per week – a) I then have week with no value, though floating currently have little value,  and b) no real commitment on availability, though AVC has been good for us in the past.   Feels like paying Anfi for availability they should offer upfront.

Richard has sent me some photos from the clean up work yesterday – see photos below, & Richard says:-

“Proud to have been part of the Anfi/Scuba Sur initiative to clean up the planet. Can’t believe there were boat batteries and bulk bins amongst the regular rubbish to be expected. At committee we have discussed ways Anfi can encourage bars and restaurants on site to manage the litter production”

Slightly different experience.   I’ve got points at Gran Anfi and have not really had problems in booking weeks, normally we don’t book into GA and book into Beach or Monte.  AVC have been very good when we call for a points booking, over last 15 years.

Also have floating resale week at Monte and that is more of problem, though as I have posted before if we can’t get what we want just book a week, rent it out, and buy the week we wanted off rentals – the cost difference is normally minimal.

Hopefully the new owners, once in place, will improve accessibility to weeks and maybe even have online booking, so we have visibility of what’s available.

    Hi John
Although Pam & I have some points at Gran Anfi I personally would not move to points for our other floating or fixed weeks at Beach and Monte, especially at the cost level you indicate.  We too have had trouble at Monte getting the week we want some years, even booking at the first opportunity.
The best tactic if you can’t get the week you need is to use your floating week to get a week that is available, rent it out, then look on our rentals and other sites to find the week you want.   We have done this over several years with success most of the time – if you are going for a high season slot you may have to pay a premium, but otherwise it should be pretty much the same cost.

I just wanted to add, that a really memorable moment for me was sitting with my 3 year old granddaughter, next to the now closed Montsemar near the Radisson resort, on the seating out to the sea, looking over to Anfi marina and the light house, we just sat there and looked at the lighthouse counting the lights as they pulsed out.

We chatted and counted the lights on the lighthouse.  I’ll remember that forever, such a magical moment.

    Hi William

I have to agree with everything you have said. I just wish more members could take a few minutes to post information about their views or experiences at Anfi

I’ve never been enamoured with onsite restaurants, though Pam has been in May and the new Chapter One is certainly of interest.

We are out with our 2 granddaughters in October, who will then be 5 and 2 and a half, and will be interesting to see if they like the Fun Park or not. It does sound good as they like anything  with movement.

Last time they were out 18 months back, the then 3 year old on first morning, insisted on taking her Nana round all the pools at Monte before 9 a.m.
Phoebe loves the pools at Anfi and one day just ran and ran round the Monte children’s pool and slide until she stopped and said “I tired” – then we took here to a sunbed in shade and she fell asleep for hour or two. Phoebe also loved the ice cream bar, which was a regular stop off after her dinner.

    Thanks for your support

    Hi Angus
Are you there at the moment?  Pam just got back over a week ago so will be posting her thoughts on her stay before long.  The Fun Park was not open when Pam left though I have opened a forum item to get some feedback once it is open, as potentially useful when I am over with my young granddaughters.

I’m not here to defend Anfi, though clearly many members are very happy with what they see at Anfi and a proportion with the onsite restaurants. I get the impression that quite a few members, like me, prefer to eat offsite and have done for many years – in my case since 2002.  The onsite restaurants do not in my eyes offer good value or in some cases quality of food or service.  Important to understand that the only ones that Anfi control are inside the security perimeter.

The last time I stayed in Sonnenland was in 2002 and unless it has radically improved there is no comparison in my view between it and Anfi.  My experience there was one of the reasons we bought at Anfi.  We have friends who 2 years ago stayed near Anfi, then via sales pitch moved in and have 5 weeks at Anfi now and have sold most of their other RCI weeks because they like Anfi so much. Not everyone will like every resort.

We need to be clear about what Anfi do and do not control.  The management of the coastal strip including the plaza area, and the area that used to be tennis and mini-golf is managed under a contract let by the Spanish authorities.
Anfi used to manage this area under the contract though have not done so for some years as it lost out when the service was re-tendered.
It was after Anfi lost control of the management of the coastal side that the tennis and mini-golf closed, and the changes in food outlets outside of the security perimeter are not things that Anfi control, nor the Fun Park area.
Anfi hope to regain the contract in the future via re-tender.

Gran Anfi was never sold to me as an adult oasis, in fact it was sold as family friendly, which was a big attraction.  I suspect the sales pitch altered to whatever they thought might clinch the sale.

If you dislike the changes at Anfi so much, and I know you are waiting for resolution on your contract, but rather than go to something you don’t like why not just rent out the week and use the money towards something you enjoy.  There are plenty of people keen to rent weeks and on average members adverts rent within 4 to 6 weeks and over 85% of adverts placed rent out successfully.

    Regards, Brian
