I was looking at rates for hiring a car from the car rental next to Monte reception.  Looking at their weekly rates it cost me less to for a car for 3 weeks and 2 days from the airport than it would to hire for 1 week on site – based on a VW Golf  – and their base rates are 3rd party insurance.

I notice the rates onsite for a smaller a car are quite a bit less than the Golf category – suggest you look carefully before thinking a short rental onsite would be cheaper  – as I think what you pay for 2 or 3 days would cover a weeks rental from airport and give you a lot more flexibility

Having said that I’m at Beach where parking is free, whereas the other resorts will charge a daily rate, unless you park out on the road.

Opened this evening.  Pam & I stopped off for a drink. They had live music and say they will offer live music most evenings – though will close one or two evenings mid-week.

Cocktails are 6 euro’s each or 2 for 10 euros.

Quite a  bit of condensation on seats, though waiters wipe seats down and offer blankets as well – the owner said they are getting parasols very soon to reduce condensation.

    Well worth a visit

Just to emphasise for any members arriving at Anfi and driving from the airport, until the GC500 opens again in about 2 months i.e. early January  – you cannot get to Anfi via Arguineguin –  when driving from the airport, stay on the GC1 past Arguineguin and come off at the Puerto Rico turn off , then come via Puerto Rico or via Tauro and into Anfi via the GC500 road.

I thought it was worth emphasising this as the road signage is not good at present, and I don’t know if Anfi are notifying people direct about the road restrictions.

[And if you need to shop for food before getting to Anfi, go the Puerto Rico route into top end of Puerto Rico, and turn left into Motor Grande where, within a minute or two, you will find the excellent Mercadona supermarket.  It is open until 9.30 most evenings, and has excellent butchers, fish and deli counters.]

I tried driving into Patalavaca and then going up the hillside road past Spar to get to Arguineguin. The road winds round, past Palm Garden, and eventually brings you out at the other end of roadworks just up the road from the whale fin roundabout.

Not sure this saves any time compared to going via Puerto Rico.  And beware that at the Arguineguin end there are traffic lights controlling where you rejoin the GC500 road.  They only control a 30m or so stretch of road that is one way operation to control exit/entry from GC500 onto the hillside road. The lights are set to quite  long cycle time for no apparent reason,  so I just missed getting through and waited nearly 5 minutes for lights to go back to green.

At Monte Vista they have, within the last few weeks, installed large awnings to give extra shade from the sun over the seating at the front and side of the kitchen area – very useful if you are wishing to keep out of strong son, with young children etc.

I saw today that work has progressed and people were working in the bar area setting up equipment. Awnings around the building have been set up and new furniture is out.  Looks like ready to open very soon.

As some of you will know the Monte pool was brought back into use, then parts of it were closed again for last month or two, whilst leaks on the main pool were investigated.  I’m told the leaks were around the handrail fixings into the pool floor.

Earlier this week most of the sunbed area was brought back into use and yesterday the main pool was reopened.  See photo below.

Pam and I drove over to the west coast last week. On route stopping at the cactus gardens, which is a pleasant way to spend an hour or two.

We went on the new motorway section which does cut down the travel time – and then you still have some scary roads with tight bends if that appeals – was not obvious to me that the old road is closed but did not try that once we found the motorway.

At the north went into Puerto De Las Nieves – lovely area. Found a part away from the port which has a sea pool, very rocky so wear the right footwear!  There is also one of the fisherman’s restaurants in the main port area.

We drove back via motorway, stopping at El Mirador shopping complex – well worth a look round if you haven’t been.

Oddly, walking to mini-golf area today and saw the refit of the previous Indian restaurant going ahead – looks like it may open before too long

See my post on this link for photo

I’ve heard that mini-golf may be re-opening in next few months.   For now people are playing unofficially  and if you look on the AnfiDelMar, John & Linda, Facebook page you can find out who is holding the clubs and balls, & you can then arrange to borrow them for a morning / afternoon

Roger is right that the Montsemar cafe just after Monte Marina apartments was closed along with the other Montsemar beach restaurant near Radison Blu, the latter is now demolished.   Problem with not having correct permissions to operate.
The original Montsemar within the Monte Marina apartments is still operating.  And as I’ve posted today a new Montsemar has opened further round just after Valentino’s

The new-ish ice cream shop in the Plaza continues to do very well, and the restaurants around the plaza have plenty of tables filled at lunchtime and evening, though Pam & I tend to go offsite.
The area just before the mini-golf where the Indian restaurant used to be, looks rather rundown, though there is some work on new paving and steps, and possibly a water feature.

a few days back and excellent as reported above.  Very busy with one or two large groups

Bit of delay but had a really good tomato soup, one of the best I’ve had

Pam & I both had the special with steak and dumplings. Steak was very very good. Dumplings not to our taste and too stodgy.

Apart from dumplings a lovely meal. Wine was very nice as well, and good value.

Pam & I went on Sunday –  they have a jazz player every Sunday from 7 to 9 ish.   Music was soft jazz and we liked it. The restaurant was very busy with nearly all tables taken.

Service struggled with the numbers as we arrived as booked for 7.30 – no one took any orders until 7.45,  drinks arrived just before 8, and starters at 8.15.

They have specials on for fish and an Angus T bone steak – we both had steaks and disappointed as were cut off the bone and quite a bit of fat, and not the best we’ve had.  Thinking fish would be better, looked good on other people’s plates!!  – or chicken like Em had.

just after the Servatur hotel the road is completely closed off with a no pedestrian sign –  there were a couple of people ignoring this and walking along the road in the evening.  From here you can walk down a long ramp to the beach and rejoin the pathway along the beach.
If going to Cueva Pirata there is a tunnel under the road that let’s you get across to the other side

    Road to Arguineguin

    #17474

I walked round on Monday and the road off the Patalavaca roundabout is now closed off – you can still get round the side to the Servatur hotel, though the other side of the hotel loops back to roundabout

Traffic from roundabout either goes up the hill past the Spar, or back to Puerto Rico

there’s an update on FaceBook about the bus service changes

Basically buses going past Anfi into Arguineguin get diverted at Patalavaca, round the hillside road and into Arguineguin.
Buses going through Arguineguin to Puerto Rico go into Arguineguin, then turn back and go GC1 to Peurto Rico – you then have to change to get bus going from Puerto Rico past Anfi towards Arguineguin

The article below has more detail if it affects you

    ———————

As of Monday 6 November due to Walkway works Patalavaca / Arguineguin the busses (and al traffic) will need to adapt special routings as follows:

“The Global Bus company have announced that their alternative routes will be as follows:

Arguineguín – Puerto Rico: Once at the Arguineguín stop (14001), a change of direction is made at the Cola de Ballena (Whale´s Tale) roundabout, going back to take the GC-1, from where they will go to the preferred stops in Puerto Rico, from where the usual route will continue.
The out of service stops will be : Sunwing (15011), Patalavaca (15001), Aguamarina (16041), Barranco Balito (16031), Barranco Agua La Perra (16021).

Puerto Rico – Arguineguín: Once at the Patalavaca stop (15002), buses will be diverted along Avenida de Los Guaires, as per the map below. The route will be marked with GLOBAL directional arrows.

The travellers heading from Arguineguín towards the out of service stops, must get off in Puerto Rico and change to the opposite direction for the bus going back to Arguineguín, until arriving at their preferred destination. They can travel for free as long as they show the correctly validated ticket.

Travellers wishing to get on at the out of service stops, between Balito and Patalavaca, heading for Puerto Rico, Playa del Cura, Taurito, Puerto de Mogán, etc., must take a bus in the opposite direction, heading to Arguineguín (stop 14001), from where you can change to the bus that will take them via the GC-1 to their final destination. These travellers can also travel for free to Arguineguín.”

    Hi Wolfgang

Thanks for clarifying. But if not Anfi, is this yet another route to advertise on top of existing options?

Who is it who owns & promotes the app?

    Regards, Brian

    #17347

    Just two updates

1 Private cars going to Arguineguin may be diverted at Patalavaca up past the Spar via one way system into Arguineguin.  Seems to be lack of definitive info.
There are signs in Spanish either end of roadworks if anyone can translate.

2 Walking at road level, you may be able to go via the hotel service roads and rejoin the main road, I’ll try to check if I get a chance otherwise perhaps another member can advise

    Regards, Brian

the other one from this week is using the wooden boxes, various shapes

Maria has loads of napkins where you can pull off the top layer to use as your design

    #17342

This week only Pam & I at the craft session, such a shame not better take up – next Thursday is glass painting, using glasses rather than plates, so you get your personalised mug or beer glass

Last two efforts from Pam I are – mugs, though tried bubbles theme and maybe could have chosen something else.  The lady next to us did palm trees and really amazing detailed drawing, wish I could do that

    Hi Wolfgang

    Sounds useful

Is the anonymous aspect for enquirers, or is it anonymous to Anfi – i.e. do Anfi use this system to collect data on advertisers and enquiries?
Seems coincidental that at the meeting at Maroa meeting this week the Anfi Sales rep was talking about Anfi Sales wanting to take a bigger role in handling resales and availability of Anfi weeks –  which would be good if pricing was fair and equitable.

Anfi UK currently charge for rentals as you know, though do have an 80% + success rate on rentals  – if all rentals can be consolidated and fairly priced that has to be in the interests of members provided data confidentiality is maintained.
It has taken quite a bit of effort to provide a system that allows enquirers to easily search for weeks they want, rather than plough through the Facebook style posts where can be quite hard to find anything. So if Anfi can replicate that, or what you do on your timeshare rental/sales site, then that has to help members wanting to rent or sell.

Meeting was very useful. Turnout from UK and German members quite low, with lots of Norwegian owners there.

Interesting info from the committee reps and an Anfi rep, and chance to ask questions

Hopefully our members will turn out in greater numbers for future events.

Maroa do the happy hour but bring cash as separate bar for meeting.  There is also free raffle which Linda, of John & Linda,  organises with prizes for Maroa sunbeds – actually won which is very rare in raffle for Pam & I !!
