Health – Your Skin Routine in the Sunshine
While we look forward to the sun on our skin and the mood boost that it brings, the extra heat can also make us feel oily, get us accidentally sunburnt, and accelerate ageing.Learn how to take extra care of your skin in the sunshine with our tips.
Double Cleanse
In sunshine, there’s lots of things going on for our skin. From extra oiliness and sweat to everyday pollution, make-up, and food, it’s important to make sure your face is fully cleansed before adding product to it.
A double cleanse is the perfect way to do it. It’s a good tip for all year ’round, but in particular in summer to remove the extra oil and suncream.
SPF
You should wear SPF all year round anyway, but it’s particularly important during the hot months. Tanning is a sign of skin damage, so it’s something you want to avoid at all costs. Reapply every couple of hours and take shade in the hottest part of the day.
You should also try to limit your sun exposure in general, avoid going out in the midday sun, and keep covered where possible.
Lightweight Products
As everyone says, your skin care is like your wardrobe. So, if you change from jumpers and coats to floaty dresses and sandals as the weather warms up, then you should use lighter skincare products in the summer too.
You might want to change your serum to suit your skin needs. We’d also recommend scaling back on AHA products.
Vitamin C Serum
Vitamin C helps boost the skin’s natural sun protection, so it’s great to add to your routine for summertime. It helps with hyperpigmentation and fine lines, and can boost collagen production.
Fake Tan
If you’re missing that summer glow, then don’t be tempted to go without SPF. Instead, invest in a fake tan—not only is it much better than damaging your skin through sun worship or a sunbed, but there are now so many options that you can choose exactly what type of bronzed perfection you’re after.
