also the court cases have all been for contracts from direct sales – the claims companies have not as far as I know taken a resale owners case to court – which may be because they feel the legal chain is not strong enough as it was “mis-sold” by Anfi to the original buyer not the resale buyer
06/11/2021 at 6:58 pm #70352Hi Derek
Welcome to the Anfi UK Club.
Most insurance policies do not cover timeshare partly for the reason David set out. I’m sure some members have said they know of policies that do – if you are on Facebook do join our group there and ask the same question if you don’t hear back on the Forum.
Resale fixed week owners have fewer options than direct buyers when they have yet to sign new contracts. I managed to rent out a May week last year to someone from an EU country who could travel when the UK couldn’t
Anfi have been considering whether to give compensation to people who could not travel when the Spanish government banned UK people – they were said to be due to report back to recent liaison committee meetings – so Roger and Richard may have heard more in the last few weeks.
Kind regards, Brian
06/11/2021 at 6:46 pm #70351Hi Paul
Anfi definitely seem to be upping pressure to coerce people to sign new contracts – both David Ledger and Roger Byatt discussed this with Anfi management when they were out in last few weeks and I’ve asked them to comment on your points. As some reassurances from Anfi already seem to be not being honoured.
Also Anfi insisting new contracts are signed before processing a sale is another new tactic.
I did sign a new contract for Gran Anfi points contract last year and there isn’t a lot wrong with the new contracts. Anfi were offering incentives like vouchers for weeks you couldn’t use though I don’t know if this is still the case.
Anfi are keen to “legalise” the contracts that were not in line with timeshare law, and reduce risk of future court claims.
Anfi now seem to be taking every step to force owners to sign up.Kind regards, Brian
NB
– the Club do have a sales advert service though sales are very slow at present
– handing back has been something Anfi, to their credit, have always offered
– do be very careful if considering legal action as the current administration position is likely to affect the claims position & even when successful is a long process02/11/2021 at 2:51 pm #70180Hi Ian
thanks for the feedback – AVC seem to be a bit hit and miss – some people have trouble getting through.
Pam rang AVC this morning and got answered within seconds. Though sadly no availability for week 44 next year – all went within 2 hours yesterday (we had emailed on Sunday but AVC had not looked at those emails, so was waste of time) So for guest certs seems like emailing works whereas for booking anything ring or call into office when it is open)
Kind regards, Brian
16/10/2021 at 10:50 am #69592Hi Ian
To advertise a week you need to add it into your timeshare weeks (https://anfiukmembers.co.uk/my-timeshares/) & then create the advert from the timeshare – there isn’t a way to create an advert without a timeshare week.
I should add the adverts are intended for members to advertise there own weeks, not for advertising other rentals, or trading as a rentals service. There are some notes about setting up adverts on this post and a link to a short video
Kind regards, Brian

15/10/2021 at 12:41 pm #69562Those members able to travel to Anfi soon may be reassured by the low Covid case rate in Spain and the islands – quite a change from a while ago
and recent data from the Canary Islands government showed 227 case across Gran Canaria, mainly in Las Palmas, and 5 cases in Mogan district
15/10/2021 at 11:58 am #69556Good news last night that at last the government have confirmed dates for change from PCR to lateral flow for fully vaccinated travellers returning to UK – takes effect from 24th October and you can book tests from 22nd October. More info on the BBC page see below
“Travellers will be able to order their lateral flow tests from 22 October, when a list of approved providers will be published on the gov.uk website.”So if you are at Anfi and coming back on or after the 24th do hold off booking your day 2 PCR

11/10/2021 at 8:31 pm #69459Hi David
We discussed whether or not the administration ought to deter people from signing new contracts. Overall consensus is it doesn’t make much difference. If you sign the new contract your right to sue Anfi will go.
If you don’t sign tell Anfi to cancel otherwise the account stays suspended and you can’t (easily) see points or book floating weeks etc.
If you are getting voucher or roll over of points for unused weeks that you’d otherwise lose that seems an incentive, though check whether availability to Dec 22 is enough if availability limited (& vouchers still I believe limit you to booking 10 months ahead other than “home” resort – but do check) Expiry in 2023 might be better if you get it
The change for floating weeks ends up with similar to what you have now – Anfi had, years ago, assigned underlying weeks to all floating and points contracts, in the Anfi system, but not on our contracts.
Contract-wise Anfi assign you a fixed week and then put that into a floating or points arrangement that renews every 5 years, unless you cancel it in advance. So for first 5 years this operates the same as now.We don’t know if the administration will affect any of this – Anfi have said it won’t – and in either case seems will affect old and new contracts the same.
Hope that helps

Thanks, we’ll definitely send out email for Zoom call nearer the time.
Roger and Richard are out at Anfi soon for resort liaison meetings and asking Anfi to invite the administrator to meetings, & also hoping to meet the administrator as members representatives. Bit of a learning curve for everyone involved. At the OGM the 29th Nov seemed the earliest date, after the relevant meetings, that most people could make and importantly the right people from the Anfi UK committee. There may well be some info before then, though there are confidentiality constraints within the Anfi resort committees.

04/10/2021 at 3:03 pm #69166Hi Ian
I’m pretty sure that the guest certificate can be changed but this has to be done by the owner i.e. not by the “guest”. Effectively Anfi cancel the first guest cert and issue a new one – the guest cert fee has to be paid again – €25 if in AVC otherwise €50You could check with Customer Services to be sure – do let us know how you get on
Some members have reported delays in getting guest certs, as have some of the German club members – though another member got one the day after requesting it.
There seems to be a keen interest in renting weeks later this year, especially 2 bed, and depending on price. Rental enquiries for the Clubs rental adverts have stepped up in July, more than doubled in September and settled a little in October.

01/10/2021 at 12:44 pm #69031In case members are getting Euro’s soon – I’ve just used M&S again for Euro notes and got the same good mix of low value notes as last year – see post above – the next day collection is a better rate than same day service.
Revolut offer a slightly better rate at 1.167€ to the £ and uses close to the the interbank rate – M&S were around 1.138 which seems to be going rates for anything I could get locally
Travelex at Gatwick pre-ordered offer 1.1320
Using https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ gives rates for delivery, collection locally and airport collection – most rates between 1.13 and 1.15 at time of writing this
29/09/2021 at 5:32 pm #68938I know some members do not use Facebook but for those that do please consider joining our members group – https://www.facebook.com/groups/anfiukmembersclub – the Forum is still active though Facebook is very useful for quick interaction – David has commented on this in his Chair’s report for the 2021 OGM and explains why both FB and Forum are useful in different ways.
I have recently uploaded a list of all current members emails which ought to automatically approve requests from anyone who uses the same email on Facebook profile as they do for their Anfi UK membership.
If you don’t use Facebook and are thinking about it, you may be interested that one of our members recently set up a “basic” account using some notes I gave him which were based on work that Wolfgang did for the German club members. It gives info on how to set up the account and minimise how much info you share to Facebook and to limit access – I also found two websites that give further info on how to limit what info you share.
If of interest do let me know!Brian

Vice Chair & Membership Secretary28/09/2021 at 7:40 pm #68900not top of my list of concerns right now, given the administration issue, but some members can’t see their points balance – I checked again and mine are visible on anfi.com members area, but are not showing on the Anfi app which seems a competitor for the most useless app I’ve come across
28/09/2021 at 7:26 pm #68898Anfi have published this statement today on the anfi.com members area:-
(good news, if correct, that the Clubs will not be affected – your elected committee representatives are continuing to seek confirmation form Anfi management)========================
Dear Members,
The General Management of the Anfi Group wish to inform you that two of the companies within the Anfi Group of Companies (namely Anfi Sales SL and Anfi Resorts SL), have gone into administration as of 23rd September. This is a measure agreed by the Spanish Courts of Justice and does not affect the operation of the resorts nor the rest of the companies that make up the Anfi Group.
The Clubs have their own autonomy, distinct from Anfi Sales SL and Anfi Resorts S.L. and therefore, they operate as independent bodies with their own income and expenses and, as such, will not be affected at all by this which we understand to be a onetime situation.
This information has been made public in the local and international media and, therefore, the General Management of the Anfi Group consider it appropriate and necessary to inform you that all Anfi members can continue to enjoy their holidays as they have until now, and that their rights as members will remain totally unchanged. Anfi will continue to operate under the timeshare regime as it has done for the last 30 years, and your obligations and rights of use and enjoyment are guaranteed and safeguarded, as could not be otherwise. Therefore, this onetime situation will have no negative impact on your holidays, and we would like to reiterate the fact that your affiliation rights will not be affected in any way.
In Anfi, work continues daily so that you may continue to receive the best of services. Whenever possible, we have taken advantage of the low occupancy during the recent difficult times to do repair works in the Clubs, although we know that there is still more work to be completed.
The whole Anfi team encourages you to continue with your plans to travel. We look forward to warmly welcoming you back soon to your holiday home in Gran Canaria.
Regards,
Jose Luis Trujillo

Anfi Group27/09/2021 at 9:59 am #68820A Canary News article published later yesterday has editorial comment which is worth reading – https://thecanarynews.com/2021/09/anfi-sales-and-anfi-resorts-declared-bankrupt-with-a-e56m-debt-they-cannot-pay/
23/09/2021 at 12:20 pm #68725wow that is a long time to wait – perhaps an email to Anfi management to highlight the delay – have to wonder if Anfi really know the service level they provide & the website said up to 7 days last time I looked

22/09/2021 at 12:52 pm #68678Hi Diane
Geoff Mathews has been into AVC office and had a guest certificate done while he waited – so if you haven’t got yours yet do chase up – AVC claim emails answered within 24 hours.Geoff has advised:-
GCs are being done by AVC at the moment but they are very busy with 2-300 emails a day they are only open Monday Tuesday and Thursday each week……… I called in today no queue and they did my GC while I waited and I had confirmation email before I left.
However I think they are having a problem with members trying use their vouchers as they are telling me they are fully booked up to Christmas.
But more staff are coming back to work from 4th October so service time should improve.[AVC only open 3days a week at present but I am told this will change from 4th October as more staff return to work. However they say all emails are being answered within 48 hours and most within 24 hours.]
19/09/2021 at 1:54 pm #68559there definitely seems to be a problem with delays, at least for some people – on the German Club Facebook site there are people reporting delays, though also some people getting very quick turnaround
There is nothing on anfi.com members area about guest certificates being handled by Vacation Club, the info on there still says to contact Customer Services. The normal service level is within 7 days.
As David has suggested Maria would be one way to escalate if nothing else works
Can you let us know how it works out please – as this could be something to feedback into the liaison committee(s)
Brian
13/09/2021 at 2:29 pm #68294We had to call AVC as found we have some points expiring this year (c0ntrary to what Anfi told us earlier in year and of course you can’t check on line as it doesn’t show points balance, at least for me) – we asked about putting into RCI and were told it has to be weeks and not points directly.
This seems to contradict what Anfi say on their own website about options for points members & be good to hear if anyone else has talked to AVC about points and RCI13/09/2021 at 2:24 pm #68293thanks for the tip Lesley, I’m sure other members only use hand luggage on some trips
06/09/2021 at 12:30 pm #68040Our last general meeting was in 2019 when we met near Cirencester at the Cotswold Water Park, seems a lifetime ago, and many new members have joined the Club since then.
If you haven’t already replied please do take a minute to let us know whether or not you can join us at the Club’s general meeting using this link.
You can also use the link to ask any questions you’d like the Committee to address or topics you’d like covered.
We are hoping to keep the formal parts of the meeting short by issuing reports upfront on membership, financials, rentals and keep time to cover the information about the Anfi resort and topics that members wish information or to discuss.
Regards, Brian
06/09/2021 at 12:21 pm #68038Hi John
It’s certainly the case that Anfi have very little availability in the coming months. I haven’t used points into RCI. You may get a response via our Facebook group if you are signed up to that, or if not I can post on there for you?
If you do lodge with RCI you normally have 2 years to use the points. One of our members used to put her week into RCI every year and then use to book back into Anfi – the normal rule is you can only book via RCI to Anfi every 4 years but clearly this isn’t always the case.
It may be easier to just call AVC and ask how the points transfer works – one of members called AVC recently and there seemed to be an issue about putting into RCI when the points have already been carried over from the year before – if you gain any clarity on this be good to know.
Your other option is to find a holiday on Expedia and then use points via AVC to pay for it – the feedback from a few people is that the value is not so good.
We’ve heard that Anfi are looking at whether to extend into next year points and floating that would expire this year, though any decision would not be until October which isn’t a great help.
Do let us know how you get on
Kind regards, Brian
