We went ours by air mail but after Barry sent his

Follow on point for SGM is can Anfi keep track of how many late returns they receive, as the one Pam & I sent should have got there is time by normal air mail standards
Whilst I doubt they late receipts are likely to have swayed things it would be good to know numbers, as if things are close they might have !!

    Hi Derek

Thanks for alerting us to this.  Could you just clarify where the shops are as the address you give does not come up on google maps. Though Thomas has clearly found other info on TripAdvisor

The shops I’d had suspected of dubious trading were near  the roundabout

    Thanks, Brian

    Hi Wolfgang

I can’t agree that the Club is actually split simply into happy / unhappy in the way suggested. Clearly some members are very unhappy with the way Anfi has treated them and are taking legal action. And I can understand that position.  That doesn’t mean everyone else is “happy”.

The Club is here to help and represent all its members whether they wish to make claims or not. I don’t see why that is such a divisive issue.
In voting people who are fixed weeks might well have different considerations to points or floating week owners, or those pursuing claims.
And in any case we only have a small part of the overall Anfi ownership. Even with all the European clubs added.

Members who are resale owners do not have rights to take legal action in any case. But they will have a view of which option is in their best interests.

For example, myself, with points at Gran Anfi, I don’t currently intend legal action but I have something with no underlying week, no resale or hand in value. And a lot of sales promises not fulfilled.  I’m OK now but may become unhappy in the future.

Equally many members position will change with family circumstances, ability to travel, etc.   This is really important as if Anfi offered a proper and fair buy back programme many peoples concerns might be reduced.

Also for me Anfi need to clarify where they are with the commitment for maintenance fees over the 50 year term. Previously, but not contracted, Anfi would always take back a week, or points, and waive the o/s fee.   Or take back if 2 years maintenance not paid.  Now they talk about obligation in the voting papers.

Do we actually have a potential 50 year maintenance cost claim hanging over our estates?  If so that might make me take action to remove that liability –  that is more of concern than handing ownership to my son’s.

    Hi Liam

Thanks, that’s very good of you.

To put in a link, it is as you say, copy the URL from the forum entry and paste into the info box in Places – to liven the link, click in the link, then click the icon for “link” and that turns the text blue as a live hyperlink

I’ve just tried adding Cose Com Sei as a test, and the link works fine, but the location does not show properly on the map, even though it does in edit mode. I’ll check with our developer as something has changed since locations were last added

To add a restaurant, or any other location, you click on the Add New Place – I’ll do a short guide as a couple of fields to fill in

    Regards, Brian

Hi – is El Gaitero next to Cose Com Sei or in another part of Las Olas centre?

    Hi Robert

I’m glad the meal was good for you. Pam likes lamb, so I’ll make a note to ask upfront when we next go

    Thanks, Brian

    Hi Liam

Good question.  There isn’t a “Like” button built into our bbPress Forum whereas as our old system (vBulletin) did have one.
I’ve looked as another member queried this too –  there are one or two plug-ins by third partied that add a “like” button,  though I’ve read in feedback  that in some cases these can cause systems stability and performance issues. I’ve added to the list to discuss with the developer, as we’d need to test carefully before trying on live system.

I found the post that refers to SW222 – from Richard last November – Richard mentions that Big Horn, SW222 and Aquarela are owned by the same people

    One to check out

    Hi Andrew
Sorry to hear breakfast not good – we went in May and it was good. I did notice they seemed slow at times to refresh the counter when things ran out.

Some friends had been for breakfast at El Café and said it was good.

I wondered if anyone had been to Tropicana as it runs buffet breakfast and we saw a few people using it – if so can add to the Tropicana reviews

Since Julie posted in April last year part of the west coast GC200 has been closed, and now replaced by a new 7km stretch of road slightly inland which opened in April.  I didn’t get a chance to do the round trip when I was out in May – have any other members had a chance to go round yet?

I’ve copied an article below from this link – http://www.cardenas-grancanaria.info/news/west-coast-road-to-open-in-gran-canaria/

By the way if you are thinking of hiring a car while at Anfi it is well worth checking prices before you go – I looked when out there in May and I’d paid 210 Euros at airport for 2 weeks – whereas from the car rental at Anfi they were 40 or 50 Euros a day, maybe extra for full insurance ( and parking at Beach Club is free, Monte and Gran charge about 7 Euros a day).

    ======================

Since the famous section of the GC-200 west coast road between La Aldea and El Risco closed permanently in 2016, there has been no easy way of driving around Gran Canaria.

The cliff-edge road closed in November 2016 after a big landslide and the government decided not to clear it due to expense and risk.

Since the closure, the only way of getting from La Aldea to Agaete was to head inland from La Aldea and then drive back down to the coast; a scenic but long route.

However, the new 7 KM inland stretch of road between La Aldea and El Risco is now asphalted and is due to open within two weeks once the signs and road markings are in place.

The new road cuts the time needed to get from La Aldea to El Risco from 20 minutes to seven minutes and has cost 89 million euros.

A further four KM of new road between El Risco and Agaete is planned but work is yet to start.

    Hi Liam

Originally we intended to move over to using Places for comments and to link or transfer existing previous reviews.  However a drawback to Places is that it doesn’t have a list of latest activity – so on balance I think it will work better if we carry on using the Forum section for updates, and I’ll go though in Places and add links over to the Forum.
That will give us a way to see locations on Places and then easily move to Forum content  – I’m very open to feedback on what works best for people, but if members want to be able to see the most recent posts this is easier via the Forum

    Regards, Brian

We can of course always put more posts directly into Places in the future if that is what most people prefer.

Seem to be mixed reviews about the SW222 – see Trip Advisor link below

Like you I can’t find any reference to Anfi discounts (which thread did you see it on?) Unless other members can help, maybe a phone call to check?

Sorry to hear that, I didn’t have time to try the Lyng wines before we left.  Must be bad as most whites ok when chilled

    #12220

    Hi Wolfgang

I agree with you / Richard for fixed week members, but surely floating week members are better with option 3 as they get underlying week.

    Regards,  Brian

    #12098

Maroa have sent me the link below so members can apply for the VIP card.

    http://maroaclubdemar.ip-zone. com/ccm/subscribe/index/form/ 9rwkb2n7dg

Once you have subscribed,  you will receive an email to pick the card up at Maroa reception.  No problem if you are not at Anfi, you can pick it up later – they had loads waiting to be collected when I picked up mine.

Maroa confirm with this card you will have the following promotional discounts:- – 50% discount on sunbeds (Monday to Friday)
    – 10% discount on all regular services (breakfasts, snacks, lunches, dinners)
    – additionally, if you want to have dinner at Maroa, you will have a free bottle of house wine (for 2 persons)

    Hi Gillian

Further to Julie’s post, Julie now has the approved summary and the documents are with the meeting papers – see my latest post below

    #11892

For those interested in following the progress of the claims being made by a large number of active members, and especially if you did not manage to attend the AGM in March, you can now find in the Meetings section of the website copies of JLCA’s slides and a record of the Q&A session that followed their presentation – updated to take account of developments since then – see here on this link for the meeting documents.  The slides and Q&A documents within the meeting folder are the 2nd and 3rd in the list.

Please keep this information confidential to AnfiUK and its members – this information is not for publication on Facebook or any other public site!

I’ve noticed that too, that the display is cramped up in portrait mode – on my phone it is better in landscape than portrait, as you get about half the phone for the Forum text display.
I’ve got this on the list to ask the developer about, though he is using a standard responsive design

I agree about Facebook and user friendly, though they have billions of revenue and we don’t.  However WordPress and the Forum bbpress are very common so I’d hope some of the FaceBook elements might be implemented, if not now then before too long.

    Regards, Brian

NB We did look at an app that could connect to the Forum called TapaTalk, that offers better presentation on a phone  –  but there are some security issues and until that is resolved it is not something we feel able to offer

Also see comment from Angus on 23rd May on link below about slow lunchtime service and poor food

    Hi Wolfgang
My phone is a OnePlus3 with Android 7  – if I click on MyClub it shows the 10 minute tour along with the News items, but does not start the tour automatically

    I’ll make some more checks

The desktop and mobile are actually the same webpages, it is the responsive design that reformats the display for smaller screens, but it may be missing some options in the process!!

    Hi Liam
I haven’t had a problem, even years ago – it is similar for speed to others we’ve been at like Valentino’s and Palm Garden.
We normally book for 8pm, tend to arrive 10 or 15 minutes before, and usually finished by 9.30 or 9.45  –  with a taster dish,  starter, mains and a desert or coffee.  The starter looks freshly made up, and them mains is fresh cooked.

It is a family run restaurant and had 2 service staff for tables when we were there. I guess if they had a lot of table taken at same time they might struggle.  The waitress is the same one we’ve seen for a year or two.

The Trip Advisor reviews seem positive

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g635887-d1572853-Reviews-Cosi_Come_Sei-Puerto_Rico_Gran_Canaria_Canary_Islands.html

The are lots of other restaurants in the same Los Olas complex

    Regards, Brian

    #11797

    Hi Liam
I think so, just after Valentino’s there is an old pool area and a closed cafe – just after that the path curves right and is only 30 metres or so to two restaurants, Cabosuroeste is the second one – you can see it from Valentino’s, or from Anfi.
The path stops after Cabosuroeste and if you want to go further round you have to go via the beach round to the rest of coastal path, or to those stairs that go up to Patalavaca main road shops

I never had a pint in the old pool complex, but the cafe used to be run by  British couple and we’d had a coffee or two there, shame it all closed up.

    Regards, Brian
